Obituary of Elizabeth Marie Lahr

LAHR, Elizabeth M. "Betty"

Passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the age of 91. Betty was born on May 31, 1932 in Eden Valley, MN to Peter and Elizabeth Arnold. As a young woman, she met Vern Lahr and they discovered a shared love of their hometown. They were married on July 10, 1954 and enjoyed 67 years together, raising their family in North St. Paul, where she was a lifelong, active member of St. Peter’s parish. Betty volunteered a variety of ways, including at funeral lunches, Fall Festivals, as a Mass lector and Eucharistic Minister. Happy and enthusiastic, she brought sunshine to everyone she met, friend or stranger. Her optimistic spirit came from her unshakable faith and prayers to the Blessed Mother, Mary.

Betty was a wonderful mother to her five children and a devoted wife to Vern. During the kids’ school years, she worked at State Farm and enjoyed the friendships she made there. She loved time spent with friends and family, and the trips she made with Vern and his coworkers, but her heart was always in Eden Valley where she and her family spent many weekends with her parents.

Grandma Betty will be remembered by her grandchildren for being cheerful, fun-loving and always there for them. Remarkably, not even years of dementia could dampen her bright spirit.

Preceded in death by loving husband Vern, parents Pete and Liz, brothers Ralph (Irene), Clarence (Phyllis), and sister Jane Sand (Greg), and niece Mary. Betty is survived by children: Tom, Tim, Pam Linde (Ojars), Kevin (Maureen), and Sandy Lindsay (Kevin); grandchildren: Jordan (Rachel), Amber (Sam), Dylan, Kelsey, Andrew, Colin, and Shannon; great granddaughter Madelyn.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 17, 2024 with Visitation starting at 10:00 AM, all at the Church of St. Peter, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul, MN 55109. Private burial, St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St. Paul
