*Funeral Service: A Funeral Service is generally a planned ceremony with some kind of officiant, set time and location, and often times music. During this time the deceased’s body is present as well as a casket. Funeral Services can happen at the funeral home, a church, or other location. A visitation may precede at Funeral Service and a refreshment time may follow a service.

*Visitation: A Visitation is typically set for a number of hours without any kind of formal service. This gives family members a chance to socialize and remember their loved one. Sometimes there will be an informal time of prayers and/or sharing.

*Graveside Service: A Graveside Service happens at the place of burial in a cemetery typically selected by the family. Families will often have a short service with words of remembrance or prayer for their loved one.

*Immediate Burial: Immediate Burial is the term given to a burial which occurs without any service preceding or following the burial. Typically embalming does not occur during this type of service.

*Funeral Service Followed by Cremation: It is common for cremation to follow a visitation with viewing and/or a Funeral Service. There are cremation and rental caskets available especially for this option.

*Cremation Followed by Memorial Service: A Memorial Service is generally a planned ceremony with some kind of officiant, set time and location, and often times music. Memorial Services can happen at the funeral home, a church, a community center, at one’s home, or any other location. The cremated remains may or may not be present.

*Cremation Followed by Memorial Gathering: A Memorial Gathering is typically set for a number of hours without any kind of formal service. This gives family members a chance to socialize and remember their loved one by sharing memories. Memorial Gatherings can happen at the funeral home, a church, one’s home, or any meaningful location to the family. The cremated remains may or may not be present.

*Graveside Service: A Graveside Service happens at the place of scattering or burial. Families will often have a short service with words of remembrance or prayer for their loved one. A Graveside Service can happen at a cemetery or where the cremated remains are to be scattered or buried.

*Direct Cremation: Direct Cremation is the term given to a cremation which occurs without any service preceding or following the cremation.
